Defcon 16
MBI
Well, I’m back from Defcon 16. I am tired, but I had a lot of fun and got to meet a lot of great folks.

The preview of NDE Magazine Volume 2 Issue 1 was released Friday morning. Congratulations to Schuyler for being able to put together the final layout while sitting in a hotel room, using a borrowed laptop. The full issue should be out within a couple of weeks.

I jotted down some random thoughts about my experiences there. There were too many to list here but if you’d like to read them, they’re on our forums at Lockpickology .

Our Busy Season
Schuyler Between preparations for HOPE, DEFCON and getting two full issues out, we have definitely hit our busy season over here at NDE headquarters. I’d like topaint the picture that we have a bunch of plucky interns hunting stories for us and typing 80 WPM, but, in reality we have a disparate, talented team of individuals who span the globe and community. I, myself, am a founding member of TOOOL US. John is an LI guy, while Michael is SSDEV and Mike crosses over as a Locksmith.

It’s a great crew. I have a couple of goals as we close out Vol. 1 of NDE and launch Vol. 2. (and all within 2 weeks…yikes!) First - I want to use this more. Not to bring you rambling diatribes about how busy we are or how awesome we are (but don’t go forgetting that, either) but to offer some legitimate, regular content so the site doesn’t look so lonely between releases.  Second - I’ve been wanting to offer a means for you all to give us more direct feedback on the magazine and various articles. However, I didn’t want to deal with starting a new forum, or moderating it or opening up comments (and the barn doors for spam) on the main site. An old friend came through for us and has set up a sub-section of his forums for NDE, specifically.

You can check it out at lockpickology.com when the new issue launches, Monday. We’ll have reminders and links in the issue as well. I’m excited to be able to actively discuss the content of the magazine with our reader base.

Alright, that’s all for now. Watch this space for previews of articles, cool, relevant items we want to share and the occasional “We’re busy and awesome” post.

Issue 3 is released!
MBI
Whew.  After being up for two days of last minute editing, issue three is finally available for download on the “issues” page.  It’s so nice to have it finished.  Now I can relax for a few days before we get going on issue four.  Many thanks to our readers, and feel free to leave comments here on this blog.

Hey, we have a blog!
MBI

When I first read issue one of NDE Magazine I was impressed that a locksport hobbyist would put together something so cool.  A few months later I had the opportunity to join, so here I am.

Putting together issue number two was a bit frenzied but I hope things will continue to improve from here on out.  We’re working on issue number three right now and we’re getting a lot more organized.  I hope that is reflected in the final product once we publish the next issue.  We’re still in the planning phase on a lot of things, but I’m excited for what’s on the horizon.

New to NDEmag.com
Well with the revival of NDE Magazine, the site has been undergoing a complete redesign.  Yes it may look very similar but in fact I started over from scratch and used some of the original images.  Any of the extra downloads we include with issues will be easier to find and the website should load much quicker on slower connections.

Not only that but we have THIS!  The news blog.  you can check on what we’ve been up to and get some info on what will be released in coming issues.  All the staff will be dropping in here to leave you notes from time to time.

The website is up not but it is still under some minor construction so if something breaks thats just me or one of the gremlins ive been trying to chase out of the works with regards to Firefox and IE compatibility.  Just check back a couple of minutes later and I should have fixed whatever I broke.

The comments section will be up here this time tomorrow so come back and tell us what you thought of issue 2.

All the best from me and the rest of the NDE staff.

John
