Burned up, not out
Schuyler I was going way too hard pre-DEFCON and I am paying for it now. However, you all are going to have to pay for it too, because it’s going to be a couple of weeks before the new issue is out. However! I highly recommend you download the current Vol. 2 Issue 1 preview available on the front page, or from this link: Boom!

Lot to cover in the coming issue and we’re already looking ahead to issues 2 and 3 behind the scenes. We have some hang-ups at the moment, trying to make sure we cover all of our bases with one of our bigger stories and I’m going to be updating and adding a lot of great photos and diagrams to the RKS piece.

Plenty more in store from us as the days and weeks roll on. DEFCON was a blast, as Mike indicated and I am proud to announce myself as the winner of the main event this year. Haha, I didn’t even make the finals of speed picking, however, the new champ of that is Doug Farre, who you all know and love and I honestly forgot to find out who won the points competition. The event I hosted resulted in a perfect tie between Sam and a gentlemen I never got the name of (my fault, not his!) and I made some wonderful contacts and got to put more faces to names than ever before. NDE <3’s DC.

Alright - back to the grind! This issue releases when all of the articles are finalized, but keep checking the blogroll, we’ll be adding to it with news and observations as time rolls on.

Defcon 16
MBI
Well, I’m back from Defcon 16. I am tired, but I had a lot of fun and got to meet a lot of great folks.

The preview of NDE Magazine Volume 2 Issue 1 was released Friday morning. Congratulations to Schuyler for being able to put together the final layout while sitting in a hotel room, using a borrowed laptop. The full issue should be out within a couple of weeks.

I jotted down some random thoughts about my experiences there. There were too many to list here but if you’d like to read them, they’re on our forums at Lockpickology .

Our Busy Season
Schuyler Between preparations for HOPE, DEFCON and getting two full issues out, we have definitely hit our busy season over here at NDE headquarters. I’d like topaint the picture that we have a bunch of plucky interns hunting stories for us and typing 80 WPM, but, in reality we have a disparate, talented team of individuals who span the globe and community. I, myself, am a founding member of TOOOL US. John is an LI guy, while Michael is SSDEV and Mike crosses over as a Locksmith.

It’s a great crew. I have a couple of goals as we close out Vol. 1 of NDE and launch Vol. 2. (and all within 2 weeks…yikes!) First - I want to use this more. Not to bring you rambling diatribes about how busy we are or how awesome we are (but don’t go forgetting that, either) but to offer some legitimate, regular content so the site doesn’t look so lonely between releases.  Second - I’ve been wanting to offer a means for you all to give us more direct feedback on the magazine and various articles. However, I didn’t want to deal with starting a new forum, or moderating it or opening up comments (and the barn doors for spam) on the main site. An old friend came through for us and has set up a sub-section of his forums for NDE, specifically.

You can check it out at lockpickology.com when the new issue launches, Monday. We’ll have reminders and links in the issue as well. I’m excited to be able to actively discuss the content of the magazine with our reader base.

Alright, that’s all for now. Watch this space for previews of articles, cool, relevant items we want to share and the occasional “We’re busy and awesome” post.
